Privacy Policy
What Nearbyly collects, why, and how to remove it.
Last updated: February 2026
The short version
Nearbyly helps you discover interesting places nearby. We collect the minimum needed to do that: your account email, the places you choose to save, and the location you search from. We do not sell your personal information, and you can delete your account and all of its data at any time from your profile.
Information we collect
- Account information. Your email address, and your name if you sign in with Google or Apple. If you use Sign in with Apple and choose to hide your email, we only ever receive Apple's private relay address.
- Location. If you grant location permission, your device coordinates are used to find places near you. Location is used to run your search and is not stored against your account beyond the general area name (for example “Whitesburg, Kentucky”) used to build recent searches and popularity rankings.
- Content you create. Saved places, lists, visit history, private notes, photos you upload, and reviews you post.
- Subscription status. Whether you have an Explorer+ membership and when it renews. Payment card details are handled entirely by Stripe or Apple and never reach our servers.
- Diagnostics. Basic error and performance information used to keep the app working.
How we use it
- To find and rank places near the location you are exploring.
- To save your places, lists, notes and photos to your account so they follow you across devices.
- To provide Explorer+ features to members and to process subscriptions.
- To show which places and cities are popular across Nearbyly, using aggregated activity that does not identify you.
- To respond when you contact support or send feedback.
Services we rely on
Nearbyly is built on services that process data on our behalf: Supabase (accounts, database and photo storage), Stripe and Apple (subscription payments), OpenStreetMap and Overpass, Wikipedia and Wikidata, Nominatim (place lookup), Open-Meteo (weather), and Google Gemini for AI-written summaries. Place and city names may be sent to these services to generate results. We do not send them your email address or your private notes.
Free accounts may see advertising served by Google AdSense, which uses cookies or similar technologies. Explorer+ members see no advertising.
What we never do
- We do not sell your personal information.
- We do not track you across other companies' apps and websites.
- We do not share your private notes, saved places or visit history with other members. Reviews you post are public, shown with your display name only — never your email.
Your choices
- Location permission can be turned off at any time in your device settings; Nearbyly still works if you type a place name instead.
- You can export your saved places as a CSV file from your profile.
- You can delete your account and everything in it from your profile page. Deletion is immediate and permanent.
Children
Nearbyly is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them.
